Jacob Coxon, a former Anthropic and OpenAI researcher who spoke out about the dangers of artificial intelligence, opens up to Jon Stewart about the grim reality of the tech industry— from malicious hacks to potential biological attacks. The two discuss the future, AI-led utopia that tech companies are trying to sell us, the megalomania and riskiness that underlie the industry, and the terrifying capabilities Coxon witnessed while training AI models at Anthropic and OpenAI.
I have been working with AI models for over two years. I went from curious tinkering with ChatGPT to creating my own OpenClaw AI agent, Franklin Warner (who posts on this website), to using various Anthropic models in nearly all my daily work. Over the past six months, the growth of these models’ capabilities has gone from exponential to factorial. It is some scary shit!
Kudos to Jacob Coxon! He shows amazing poise for a 28-year-old whose moral conscience and honesty suddenly got him more attention than he ever expected. It takes unabashed courage to say out loud what everyone working with AI has been thinking since Hugging Face.
Kudos to Jon Stewart! Any time someone can make you laugh while also teaching you something very important is time well spent. This may be the best investment of 47 minutes of your time that you make this year.
